Pregnancy is a miracle; people tell you you're glowing, you look great and that pregnancy suits you. There's often so much praise for pregnant women it can be easy for others to forget the negative feelings you may have about the whole process. There's more to carrying a baby than caring for the growing person inside you; you need to look after yourself as well
Don't Forget About Favourite Activities While Pregnant
While pregnancy is wonderful, it can really take its toll on your body. Women who are used to feeling attractive, confident and energetic are suddenly feeling quite the opposite. The exhaustion that hits is often overwhelming and unexpected. It takes a lot of energy to grow a baby, what's left over for yourself is usually too little and stretched too thin.
A great way to fight these pregnancy blues is to make sure, while you are focusing on your baby's health, you are also taking care of what's important to you. If working out is something that keeps you feeling positive and gives you more energy then stick to it. There's no reason you can't continue with some light exercise while you're pregnant; in fact, it's recommended. According to the WebMD article Exercise During Pregnancy; Myth vs Fact, working out during pregnancy provides a positive outcome for both mom and baby. Staying active will give you the energy to deal with the stress of pregnancy and delivery, and can also work to boost your lower than average confidence.
Make Time to Treat Yourself While Pregnant
Treat yourself to a night out once in a while. The impending financial stress of raising children can lead many expecting parents to pinch all of their pennies. It is important to be financially cautious, but you should still take the time every now and then to do something nice for yourself. It can also be discouraging for some pregnant women to make the effort to plan a night out. Feeling over tired and unattractive are often some complaints voiced by these women, but that doesn't need to put stop to a good night out.
Although you probably won't want to head to the clubs for a night on the town, some more low-energy activities would be perfect. Go to a show or take a weekend away, plan an activity you loved before being pregnant that will leave you feeling happy and positive again. Taking the time to plan something fun may be just the pick-me-up that was needed to bring you out of the pregnancy blues.
Maternity Clothes to Make You Feel Good
Buy some nice clothes for yourself. Don't let the fact that you should only get limited use out of maternity clothes put you off buying them, it'll take some time to get back to your pre-pregnancy weight so those clothes will last a lot longer than you'd think. Many women will wear their maternity clothes well into the first year after baby has been born. It allows you to look and feel good, without having to worry about jumping into your favourite pair of pre-pregnancy jeans right after the baby is born.
Looking good is often one of the most common ways for women to feel good. The WebMD feature article, Magic in a Makeover, says that studies have found women who have spent more time on their appearance were generally happier overall. “T. Joel Wade, an associate professor of psychology at Bucknell University, says women's confidence especially tends to be tied up in the how-I-look/how-I-feel phenomenon.” This doesn't mean that while pregnant, you need to focus all of your energy on trying to feel physically attractive. It only means that when you take the time to make sure you are happy with your appearance it will most likely show in your overall confidence; helping you to battle those pregnancy blues.
